Marriage18 December 1915He married first Gertrude Yerkes, daughter of William Heaton Yerkes and Caroline Hogeland, on 18 December 1915 in the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Camden, Camden County, New Jersey. They were first cousins, as Theodore's father and Gertrude's mother were siblings.2,3
Relationship Note*He often appeared in documents with the name Theodore Hogeland Jr., possibly as a means of distinguishing him from his uncle, Theodore Hogeland, who had also relocated from Pennsylvania to Fergus County, Montana.5,6,7
Census US 1920*30 January 1920Gertrude W. and Theodore Hogeland Jr. were enumerated on the 1920 census taken on 30 January 1920 in the rural area identified as School District 15, Fergus County, Montana. Theodore was 30 years of age and a general farmer, and Gertrude W. was 34 years of age. They owned their home and farm with a mortgage, and had two children who were enumerated with them. The effective date of the census was 1 January 1920, so Abraham W. was recorded as 3 years and 2 months old, and Mary C. was recorded as 3 months old.5

His four children each reported that they had still lived on that date in Southampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. We believe they likely still lived with their maternal grandparents until their father married their aunt in 1939.7
