Samuel Allen Sr.1

b. 1632, d. 1703
Birth*1632Samuel Allen Sr. was born in 1632 probably in Braintree, Massachusetts Bay Colony.1
Marriage*He married Sarah Partridge, daughter of George Partridge and Sarah Tracy.1
Biographical Info*1660Samuel was a Deacon and settled in East Bridgewater, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts (Plymouth Colony), as early as 1660. He was the town's second Town Clerk and was greatly responsible for the completeness and perfection of the records genealogists are still enjoying today.1
(Witness to Agreement) Land Records20 May 1701Samuel Allen and Comfort Willis were witnesses to an agreement to resolve a difference of opinion between neighbors John Bolton and Israel Alger regarding the bounds between their lands in Bridgewater on 20 May 1701. A note, which appeared to this researcher to have been added later, stated that errors in measuring by the "box rule" needed to be rectified.2
(Lands Committee) Land Records22 December 1702Josiah Edson, Samuel Allen Sr. and Edward Fobes served on a committee to resolve the bounds between the houses of John Bolton in Bridgewater and his neighbor Israel Alger. On 22 December 1702, the committee measured the land by the box rule measure and set up bounds between the neighbors. At the northeasterly end was a black oak marked on four sides, and about in the middle of the length, a stake and stones, and at the southwesterly end, near the river, a stake and stones. Israel Alger had already cleared about one acre of swamp woods that was going to fall within John Bolton's land, so the committee agreed that Israel Alger should have the grass on it for four years more from the above date.3
Will*1703Samuel Allen Sr. left a will in 17031
Death*1703 and also died in 1703.1
