Czechia is one of the two independent countries that emerged after Czechoslovakia peacefully dissolved on January 1, 1993, the other being Slovakia, in an event known as the "Velvet Divorce". Czechoslovakia was a larger country from 1918 to 1992, encompassing both Czech and Slovak regions.
