Harley E. was 6 years old and had not attended school within the census year, and Harvey was 3 years and 3 months old.1

Their son, Buford R. Sides, also retired, was listed that year at the same address, as was a Jerry Sides who worked at Quality Cleaners, and whom we've not yet identified. The couple's son, Harvey L. Sides, with his wife, Bertha, were listed that year, also in the Lodi directory, at 1390 W. Lockeford Street, as was a Joseph Sides, who remains unidentified.5,6,7,8,9

John was 33 years of age and worked as a self-employed general farmer. We have no idea why Alberta was recorded as "Gertrude". Our guess is that she reported her name as "Bertie" and when the census taker got around to deciphering his notes, he thought he had written "Gertie" and ended up recording her as "Gertrude." Or maybe, he just got his lines mixed up. Anyway, Bertie was 36 years of age. They rented their farm, had been married for 13 years, the first marriage for each, and "Gertrude" had given birth to one child, and she was living. Gladys was 12 years old and had attended school within the census year.6 
Divorce*Bertie and John were divorced, or at least separated, sometime between 25 April 1910, when they were together on the 1910 census, and 2 October 1919 when John, who had moved to Montana, married his second wife, stating on their marriage license that he had been previously married and was divorced.6,7,8 
Census US 1920*16 January 1920Alberta S. Pierce was enumerated as the head of her household on the 1920 census taken on 16 January 1920 in Mason City, Mason County, Illinois. She was 45 years of age, recorded as single, and owned her house free of mortgage. Her daughter Gladys, who was 22 years of age and worked as a bookkeeper in a grain office, was enumerated with her.1

Richard was 40 years of age and a teamster, and Ida was 33 years of age. They owned their house with a mortgage, had been married for 2 years, and Ida had given birth to two children, both of whom were from her previous marriage and living, and neither of whom was enumerated in their stepfather's household in 1900. Enumerated with the couple were Richard's four children from his first marriage. The two older children, Ora M. and Arthur, were ages 14 and 12 years, respectively, and had both attended school for 8 months of the census year; and the younger two, Roy and Leota, were ages 8 and 6 years, respectively. Richard's stepdaughters, Ida's two daughters from her first marriage, Imogene M. Dixon and Iris K. Dixon, were enumerated in 1900 in the household of their maternal grandparents, Elizabeth and Wilson P. Sigerson, who also lived in Mason City.7 
(Wife) Death1 September 1907Ida became a widow when Richard Leininger died on 1 September 1907 at age 47.8,9 
Census US 1910*15 April 1910Ida Leininger was enumerated as the head of her household on the 1910 census taken on 15 April 1910 in Mason City, Mason County, Illinois. She was 43 years of age, a widow, and had given birth to three children, two of whom were living. Her occupation was recorded as none and she rented her home which was on a farm. Her daughter, Imogene Dixon, and mother, Elizabeth Sigerson, were enumerated with her in 1910. Imogene was 22 years of age with no occupation, and her mother, Elizabeth, was 76 years of age, a widow, and had given birth to two children, both of whom were living. Elizabeth, also, had no occupation reported, and all three members of the household were able to read, write and speak English.9 
Marriage At some point between the 1910 and 1930 censuses, she and Thomas A. Dixon, son of Thomas A. Dixon and Harriett Van Arnsdale, remarried. They had married for the first time in 1887 and separated before Ida's second marriage in 1898 to Richard Leininger, who died in 1907. Ida was enumerated with her mother and older daughter in 1910, and we didn't find her again until she and Thomas were together on the 1930 census. We've had even less success finding Thomas. After his first marriage to Ida in 1887, he eluded all of our research attempts until he and Ida were together again on the 1930 census.5,6,8,9,10 
Census US 1930*12 April 1930Ida M. and Thomas A. Dixon were enumerated on the 1930 census taken on 12 April 1930 at 710 Garland Avenue, Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas. Thomas was 64 years of age, reported no occupation, and had been 21 years of age when he married for the first time, which was also to Ida. Ida was 63 years of age and had been 20 years of age at her first marriage to Thomas. They owned their house, which was not on a farm, and was valued at $3,500, and also owned a radio set.10 
Census US 1940*11 April 1940Ida M. and Thomas A. Dixon were enumerated on the 1940 census taken on 11 April 1940 at Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas. Thomas was 74 years of age, had completed his education through the 8th grade of Elementary School, had been a farmer, although was no longer working, and was recorded as unable to work. Ida was 73 years of age, had completed her education through the 8th grade of Elementary School, and worked doing her own housework. They owned their house, which was valued at $2,500, owned a radio set, and each reported having income from sources other than employment.11 
(Mother) Census US 195026 April 1950Ida M. Dixon and Thomas A. Dixon were enumerated on the 1950 census taken on 26 April 1950 in the household of their daughter, Imogene D. Shreve, at 103 Kayla, Euclid Heights, Garland County, Arkansas. Thomas was 84 years of age and his occupation was recorded as "Other". He was not employed, had not worked the week before the census was taken, and was not seeking employment. Imogene's mother, Ida, was 83 years of age and reported as unable to work. Hazel H. Evans, who was 20 years old and had been born in Arkansas, was also enumerated in their daughter Imogene's household. Hazel worked privately as a maid and had worked 66 hours the week before the census was taken.12 
(Wife) Death20 June 1951Ida became a widow when Thomas Abbott Dixon died on 20 June 1951 at age 85.13,14

Ida M. was 15 years old and had attended school within the census year, and Bertie was age 5.2 
Census US 1900*5 June 1900Elizabeth L. and Wilson P. Sigerson were enumerated on the 1900 census taken on 5 June 1900 on Main Street, Mason City, Mason County, Illinois. Wilson was 70 years of age and a retired farmer, and Elizabeth was 66 years of age. They rented their house, had been married for 37 years, and Elizabeth had given birth to two children, both of whom were living. Two of the couple's granddaughters were enumerated with them in 1900. Imogene M. Dixon and Iris K. Dixon were ages 12 and 10 years, respectively, and had both attended school for 8 months of the census year. They were the daughters of the Sigerson's daughter, Ida M. Dixon, who was divorced from her daughters' father, Thomas A. Dixon, and had remarried her second husband, Richard Leininger, two years earlier.
