Research Notes* The Edward Shepard source presented a convincing narrative, albeit without identifying his sources, regarding the Shepard-Pond relationships between Edward and his second wife, widow Mary Pond, and his daughter Abigail and her husband Daniel Pond. First, the author suggested that the widow Mary Pond was in Cambridge prior to her marriage with Edward Shepard. He stated that "the daughter of Mary Pond married John Blackman, and their first child was born 10 August 1656". Our own research cannot yet verify that marriage, although there was a birth on 10 August 1656 of John Blackman, son of John Blackman recorded in both Dorchester and Cambridge. The author further suggested that because the widow Mary Pond's husband Robert Pond had died in 1637, it would be probable that she brought at least her younger children with her to Cambridge. The exact date of Edward's second wife Mary's arrival in Cambridge is not known, although church records in Cambridge state that she had been dismissed from the church in Dorchester and that her daughter Mary Pond, who had been baptized in Dorchester, was 11 years old when her mother joined the church at Cambridge. Daughter Mary would probably have been aged 11 in about 1646 and Edward Shepard's first wife died in 1649. The church record is unclear as to whether or not Edward Shepard's second wife joined the Cambridge Church before or after her marriage to Edward, although it is certainly possible it was before. Then, second, the author suggested the probability that the Daniel Pond who married Edward Shepard's daughter Abigail was the son of his second wife, the widow Mary Pond. If Daniel was born about 1627, he would have been about age 19 in 1646 and about 21 years old when he married Abigail.2,3,4,5 
Residence*After the couple's marriage, Mary's youngest children, Mary, Jonathan and Sarah, lived in Mary and Edward Shepard's home in Cambridge, Suffolk County.6

Census US 1930*2 April 1930Sarah N. Langford was enumerated on the 1930 census taken on 2 April 1930 at 1004 East Clay Street, Albany, Gentry County, Missouri. She was a widow, 73 years of age, had been 17 years old when she married, owned her house which was valued at $3,500 and did not own a radio set. Her daughter, Jennie Lu Tressie Cooper, and a grandson, Delbert C. McFall, were enumerated with her in 1930. Jennie and her husband, Whitney L. Cooper, would be legally divorced in 1934, and were likely already permanently separated by 1930, although both were reported as married on their respective censuses. Jennie was 48 years of age and had been age 28 when she married, and Whitney was enumerated that year as a lodger in a hotel at the corner of North Polk and West Jackson Streets in Albany, about half a mile away from his mother-in-law's house where Jennie lived on East Clay Street. Sarah's grandson, Delbert, was the son of Sarah's daughter, Katie Bessie and Grover Samuel McFall. Delbert was 23 years of age and worked for wages as a bookkeeper for a lumber company. His parents and siblings were enumerated at the McFall family farm in Athens, Gentry County, Missouri, where Delbert had lived until his move to Albany.9

A total of eight servants, including Anne Leonard, Grace McGuire, Grace Foster, Margaret Sheridan, James Leddy, William Clarke, John Reilly and Terence Reilly, were a part of the Hinds household which consisted of Walter, age 20, and his mother, Jane (Smith) Hinds, age 45.

Walter Hinds was described as a farmer and a gentleman and his house was two stories high. At the time the census was taken, they had an Ellis family visiting overnight. The visitors included James Ellis, Mary Anne Martha (Hinds) Ellis, Mary Jane Ellis and Sally Jane Ellis. The seven other servants who resided there were Terence Reilly, 19, John Reilly, also 19, William Clarke, 16, James Leddy, 30, Anne Leonard, 25, Grace McGuire, 25 and Grace Foster, 22.1

Religion* Although he had sent his son John to Immanuel College in Cambridge for his religious training, Edmund was a Puritan. He felt so persecuted by the established Church of England that he and Grace left everything and fled with their children and some townsmen to New England, where he could worship according to the dictates of his conscience.1 
Immigration*April 1634Grace and Edmund Sherman, with their sons John and Samuel and daughter Grace and the 21-year-old grandson of Edmund's Uncle Henry, John Sherman, may have sailed from Ipswich, Suffolk County, England, in the ship Elizabeth during " the last of April 1634" for New England. Their daughter Hester and her husband Andrew Ward had immigrated with their children the previous year. Only the Sherman Genealogy source reported a name of the Sherman's ship and a date of the family's embarkation and immigration to New England. A John Sherman, age 20, is the only passenger with a Sherman surname who appears on the ship Elizabeth's April 1634 passenger list. Whether he was Edmund and Grace's son John or Edmund's cousin John, or another John Sherman altogether is not known. The Sherman Genealogy also stated, incorrectly, that because Edmund's wife was not mentioned it was therefore probable she had died at Dedham, England before 1634 and that the couple's oldest child Edmund, who was 34 years of age in 1634, had immigrated with the family. Additional research showed us that son Edmund remained in England, and his mother Grace, who was alive, immigrated. All of the passengers listed who signed an oath of allegiance in preparation for their immigration signed at Ipswich, County Suffolk , which is also the embarkation place noted in the Sherman Genealogy source.1,5,6,7,8 
Residence*June 1634 In June 1634 the family arrived at Watertown, Massachusetts Bay Colony (New England), where their daughter Hester and her family had settled the previous year, and it was there in Watertown that Edmund and Grace's son John, "under a tree," preached his first sermon as an assistant to the pastor, Mr. George Phillips.9,1 
(Father) Relocation29 May 1635Grace and Edmund Sherman were among the group of members from the church at Watertown who were dismissed on 29 May 1635 to go and form a new church in Wethersfield, New Haven Colony, Connecticut, with their son John Sherman as their first minister. Many others in their extended family also made the move.9,1,10
