Our research indicates, however, that everyone in the family, including Eva, accepted and welcomed his daughters as Eva's own. The girls, Bessie and Mertie, were ages 12 and 10 years, respectively, and had both attended school for seven months of the census year. The couple's sons, Emmett and Herbert, were ages 6 and 1, respectively. Albert C. Malory, age 60, was also enumerated with the Roberson family in 1900. He was recorded as a servant, and worked as a day laborer.7
