Theodore's son Abraham, who was recorded as William A., was 13 years old; Mary C. was 10 years old; Daniel W. was 8; and Ethel E. was 5 years old. Theodore's three oldest children had attended school within the census year.6,9 
Residence*1 April 1935On the 1940 census, Theodore reported that he had lived in the same house on the same ranch in School District 15, Acushnet, Fergus County, Montana, on 1 April 1935 as he did in 1940. His four children each reported that they had still lived on that date in Southampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. We believe they likely still lived with their maternal grandparents until their father married their aunt in 1939.7 
Marriage30 June 1939He married second Thelma J. Yerkes, daughter of William Heaton Yerkes and Caroline Hogeland, on 30 June 1939 in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. In addition to being first cousins, as his father and Thelma's mother were siblings, Thelma was the sister of Theodore's first wife Gertrude.7,10,11

Theo was 50 years of age, had completed elementary school through the 8th grade, and operated a farm valued at $1,750 which he owned. He reported no income from his farm, although he reported he had additional sources of income. Thelma was 40 years of age and had completed two years of college. Three of Theo's children from his first marriage were enumerated with the couple in 1940. Mary C. was 20 years old, was attending school and had completed 3 years of college; Dan W. was 18 years old, was attending school and had completed his 3rd year of high school; and Ethel E. was 15 years old, was attending school and had completed elementary school through the 8th grade. The children's brother, A. William Hogeland, was enumerated that year in Upland, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He was 23 years of age, a lodger in the household, had completed four years of college and was working as a chemical engineer in a textile mill.7
