(3rd Neighbor) Land RecordsJohn Kingman was identified as a neighboring land owner in transactions recorded in the original purchase record books of Bridgewater reflecting purchases made by John Bolton from Joseph Cary. The records were not dated, however all appear to have occurred around the same time Bolton settled in Bridgewater. Bolton purchased ten acres of wood lands laid out below the land of John Hayward of the Plain in the swamp, butting partly upon John Hayward's and partly upon land laid out to Elihu Brett, running easterly for its length 60 rods and 24 in breadth, bounded by a swamp pine near the northwest corner and a torn pine tree at the northeast corner and by a red oak tree at the southeast corner and from the red oak ranging westward to a small swamp pine marked on two sides near John Hayward's land where it buts and joins to the lands of John Kingman on the west side and to the lands of Joseph Hayward on the southerly side and easterly end.2

(3rd Son) Will18 January 1877Adam was named as a beneficiary in the will of his father, Adam Kinmore, dated 18 January 1877 in White County, Indiana, in which he mentioned his wife, Sarah, his sons, Joseph, Thomas and Adam, his eldest living daughter, although not by name, a granddaughter, Mary J. Crockett, and his deceased daughter, Elizabeth. He bequeathed land to each of his children, and in the case of his eldest son, Joseph, he devised that a guardian be appointed for him. Adam was identified as his father's third son, and was bequeathed 80 acres of land in Princeton Township and 20 acres of timber land in West Point Township, with the home farm wood land to be divided among his three boys.3

Research Notes*Adam's Find a Grave memorial page reported his date of death as 27 July 1898, and his date of death, as it was inscribed on his cemetery monument, was 27 July 1896. Our research indicates that his correct date of death was 27 July 1896, as it was carved into his monument. Adam died with life insurance and, on 8 August 1896, proofs of his death were mailed to the Michigan Mutual Life Insurance Company. Four days later, the Indiana state insurance agent visited Adam's widow, Harriet A. (Clapper) Kinmore, at her home in Wolcott, White County, and handed her a check for $3,000 which was the full amount of his policy. Then, during the September 1896 Term of the Circuit Court of White County, Indiana, Letters of Administration were issued to the widow, Harriet A. (Clapper) Kinmore, as the Administratrix for the Estate of Adam Kinmore. The camera icon will take you to a photo of his monument.1,8,9

David Prickett, Judge of Probate for Madison County, Illinois, wrote that whereas Jacob Kensler died intestate on or about the 3rd day of July AD 1832 having at his decease personal property in Illinois which may be lost, destroyed or diminished if speedy care be not taken of the same to the end therefore that the said property may be collected and preserved for those who shall appear to have a legal right or interest therein. He then appointed Mary Kensler and Thomas Gillham Administratrix and Administrator of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits, which were of the said Jacob Kensler at the time of his decease with full power and authority to secure and collect the said property and debts wheresoever the same may be found in Illinois and in general to do and perform all other acts which now are or hereafter may be required of them by law.

James Botkin, after being duly sworn and deposed that same day, testified that the personal estate of which Jacob Kensler died possessed did not exceed in value the sum of $600, to the best of his knowledge and belief.

Also on 28 July 1832, Mary Kensler, James Botkin, John Heaton and Thomas Gillham agreed to be held and firmly bound unto the people of the state of Illinois in the penal sum of $1,200 current money of the United States which payment, well and truly to be made and performed, they and each of them did bind themselves, their heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, jointly, severally and firmly. The judge went on to write that the condition of the above obligation was such that if the said Mary Kensler and Thomas Gillham, Administratrix and Administrator of all and singular the good and chattels, rights and credits of Jacob Kensler, deceased, do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods and chattels of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of them, the said Mary Kensler and Thomas Gillham as such Administratrix and Administrator, or to the hands of any person or persons for them. And the same so made, did exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the court of Probate for the said county of Madison, agreeably to law, and such goods and chattels, rights and credits, to well and truly administer according to law and all of the rest of the said goods and chattels, rights and credits which shall be found remaining upon the account of the said Administratrix and Administrator, the same being first examined and allowed by the Court of Probate, shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons respectively, as may be legally entitled thereto and further to make a just and true account of all their actings and doings therein when thereunto required by said court. And if it shall hereafter appear that any last will and testament was made by the deceased and the same be proved in court, and letters testamentary or of administration be obtained thereon, and the said Mary Kensler and Thomas Gillham to, in such case on being required thereto, render and deliver up the letters of administration granted to them as aforesaid and shall in the general do and perform all other acts which may at any time be required of them by law, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. The document was signed and sealed by Mary Kensler who made her mark, Thomas Gillham, James Botkin and John Heaton.

In a third document, also dated July 28, 1832 and signed by Mary Kensler and Thomas Gillham, they solemnly swore they would well and truly administer all and singular the goods and chattels, rights, credits and effects of Jacob Kensler, deceased, and pay all just claims and charges against his estate so far as his goods, chattels and effects shall extend and the law charge them, and that they would do and perform all other acts required of them by law to the best of their knowledge and abilities.3,4,5 
(Widow) Estate SaleAugust 1832His widow Mary was among those relatives, friends and neighbors who purchased items from the estate of Jacob Kensler of Madison County, Illinois, in August 1832. The list of purchasers included the names of Jacob's widow, Mary Kensler, their son Jacob Kensler, the administrator of the estate, Thomas Gillham, the fourth party to the probate bond, James Botkin, Jacob's son-in-law, John Heaton, his brother, Valentine Heaton, Thomas G. On 5 Oct 1722 the estate of Samuel Kinsley was divided between his widow and children who were described as eldest son Samuel Kinsley, second son Benjamin Kinsley, eldest daughter Hannah Hayward, second daughter Sarah Hayward, third daughter Mary Willis, fourth daughter Susannah Kinsley, fifth daughter Abigail Kinsley and sixth and youngest daughter Bethiah Kinsley. Sons John and Nathan were not mentioned in the division of the estate, however the Bridgewater History source appears quite certain that they were both sons of Samuel.2
