Sawyer, was enumerated as the head and only resident of the next house enumerated on the same census page as his son. Corwin was 68 years of age, also owned his house with a mortgage and was the proprietor of a feed store. He and his son were probably business partners.6

Richard was 22 years of age and worked as a lineman for a light company, and Lena was 27 years of age. They rented their home. Richard reported he had been 19 years old at his first marriage, and we believe Lena was his first wife, and Lena reportedly had been age 23 at her first marriage. She actually had been about age 18 when she married her uncle, and was probably about 25 years of age when she married Richard. Their daughter, Barbara Nell, was one year old.9

(Father) Court Action1695Jonathan's daughter, Mary, and James Heaton were both convicted of bastardy in 1695 in the Court of Common Pleas for Bucks County, Pennsylvania. They were both fined, however Mary's fine was later forgiven by the Governor of Pennsylvania. The Middletown Monthly Meeting also condemned James for having a child out of wedlock, a charge he denied even after the court found him guilty.7,8

(Mother) Birth1690 In 1690, when Mary was 12 years old, she gave birth to John Heaton, an illegitimate child fathered by 15 year old James Heaton. James and Mary never married and her child was raised by her father Jonathan Scaife.3,4 
Court Action*1695Both Mary Scaife and James Heaton were convicted of bastardy in 1695 in the Court of Common Pleas for Bucks County, Pennsylvania. They were both fined, however Mary's fine was later forgiven by the Governor of Pennsylvania. The Middletown Monthly Meeting also condemned James for having a child out of wedlock, a charge he denied even after the court found him guilty.5,6
