b. circa 1617, d. 10 October 1695
Birth* | circa 1617 | George Partridge was born circa 1617 in England.2 |
Immigration* | 1636 | George Partridge arrived at Duxbury, Plymouth Colony, in or prior to 1636. Windsor’s History of Duxbury reported he came from the County of Kent, England and was one of the most respectable yeomanry of the colony. He was first mentioned in the records of Plymouth Colony in 1636 when he was granted five acres of land at Powder Point with permission to settle there and to build. In the next two years, and also in 1666, he received additional grants of land around Duxbury, totaling in all about 200 acres.4,5 |
Relationship Note* | | Were Reverend Ralph Partridge and George Partridge related?... Regarding George Partridge of Duxbury, James Savage in his Genealogical Dictionary suggested he was "perhaps" a brother of Reverend Ralph Partridge being mentioned in 1636 Duxbury records, the same year that Ralph came. Charles Henry Pope in his Pioneers of Massachusetts stated Ralph had a son George who was granted land in Duxbury.
It was only after Robert Charles Anderson, in his Great Migration series, presented his convincing analysis that this researcher could state with confidence that George Partridge and the Reverend Ralph Partridge may not have been related at all, and were most certainly not father and son. Anderson stated, "Close examination of the records reveals no evidence that these two men were related at all" and listed the following points in reaching his conclusion.6,7,8,9 |
Marriage* | | He married Sarah Tracy.1 |
Death* | 10 October 1695 | He died on 10 October 1695 in Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts Bay Province (New England).2 |
