(Wife) Death1888Mary became a widow when William R. Snider died about 1888, calculating from Mary's report on the 1910 census that she had been married for 25 years.6 
Census US 1900*9 June 1900Mary and her daughter, Amanda Snider, were enumerated as boarders on the 1900 census taken on 9 June 1900 in a house at 114 Madison Avenue, Manhattan, New York City, New York County, New York. Mary was 61 years of age and a widow, and Amanda was 31 years of age and single. Mary had given birth to three children, only one of whom was living. Neither Mary nor Amanda reported an occupation in 1900.7 
Census US 1910*19 April 1910Mary and her daughter Amanda were enumerated on the 1910 census taken on 19 April 1910 at 369 Mulberry Street, Riverside, Riverside County, California. Mary was 70 years of age, widowed, and reported being married for 25 years and giving birth to two children, only one of whom was living. Amanda was 41 years of age, single, and worked as a kindergarten school teacher. Mary rented their home which was a house.6 
(Sister) Census US 19205 January 1920The home at 301 North Highland Avenue, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, owned by Mary's sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Ira F. Brainard, was enumerated for the 1920 census on two different days, first on 5 January 1920 and then again on the 5th of January. The census taker enumerated the Brainard household on his first visit, and returned to include Fanny's widowed sister, Mary Harriet (Heaton) Snider, who also resided with the couple in 1920, on his second. Ira Brainard was 79 years of age, his wife Frances was 76, and her sister Mary was 81 years of age. The Brainards owned their home free of mortgage, and employed two servants who lived in the home. Elizabeth Korb was 31 years old and worked as a cook, and Nellie F. Cotrell was 34 years old and worked as a maid. Additionally, the Brainards rented rooms at the rear of their house to Richard and Emma Branham, ages 37 and 36, respectively.8,9

His will directed his executors to sell all of his real and personal property within one year after his death and to distribute the proceeds as follows: The sum of $200 to his daughter Mary Margaret in advance, and the remainder in equal shares to his three children and his grandchild Edmund E. Bitting, being four shares. One share each to Mahlon Heaton, Mary Margaret Heaton, Eliza, intermarried to Thomas M. Wiser, and Edmund E. Bitting.

The will stated that in case his death occurred before his said grandson attained the age of 21 years, his Executors were directed to have a guardian appointed by the Orphans Court who shall receive his share and hold it in trust until he attained said age and then receive his share from said guardian. The will added that in case of the death of said grandson Edmund E. Bitting, during his minority or at any age without children, the said bequest to him was ordered and directed to be paid by his estate to Owen's three hereinbefore named children in equal shares.

The will directed that in case the sum of $200, or any part thereof, his son Mahlon M. Heaton borrowed of Miss Thomas, for which his father Owen Heaton was bound as security, and that he or his estate shall have to pay, his will ordered that the said amount with interest due, or so much thereof as will be collected from his estate, shall be deducted from Mahlon's share coming to him from his father's estate.4

Death*15 September 1943She died of a cerebral hemorrhage on 15 September 1943 in the Columbiana County Infirmary & Home for the Aged, Center Township, Ohio, at age 76. She was recorded as Mollie Heaton on her death certificate and also in the newspaper notice of her death, so was likely known by that name during the more than seven years she lived in the Home.8

Occupation*13 September 1817Micajah Heaton laid out the town of West Bedford, Coshocton County, on 13 September 1817. For a long time it was known only as Heaton's Town, then its proper name came into use. It lies in the southwestern part of the township of Bedford on the northeast quarter of section 16. Micajah was from Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and settled on this quarter section about a year previous to the laying out of the village. His cabin was situated in a corner of the section, and he kept a tavern in the village for many years. There wasn't much travel through the town at that time, so the tavern's hotel side was dependent upon the sale of whiskey for the tavern's income. Micajah also received the appointment as postmaster, and thereby drew considerable business to his bar.8,9 
Census US 1820*7 August 1820Micajah Heaton appeared on the 1820 census taken on 7 August 1820 in Perry, Coshocton County, Ohio, a township bordering the family's village of West Bedford. His household consisted of 7 people, 1 male aged 26 thru 44, 1 female aged 26 thru 44, 1 male under 10, 1 female aged 16 thru 25 and 4 females under 10. One member of the household was involved in agriculture. Enumerated in two nearby households were the families of Micajah's brothers, Isaac Heaton and Jacob Heaton.10 
Census US 1830*Micajah Heaton appeared on the 1830 census in Eden, Seneca County, Ohio. The household consisted of 12 people.11 
Census US 1850*4 November 1850Mary and Micajah Heaton were enumerated on the 1850 census taken on 4 November 1850 in Eden, Seneca County, Ohio. Micajah was 63 years of age and a farmer with real estate valued at $7,000, and Mary was 59. Living with their parents in 1850 were Catherine, Matilda, Julia, Samuel, John and Middleton. Also living with the family in 1850 were Abraham Young, age 9 and born in Ohio, and Nathaniel Lynch, age 65 and born in Maryland, who may have been a brother of Mary's.12 
Census US 1860*7 July 1860Mary and Micajah Heaton were enumerated on the 1860 census taken on 7 July 1860 in Eden, Seneca County, Ohio. Micajah was 72 years of age and a farmer with real estate valued at $1,000 and a personal estate valued at $1,600. Mary was 66 years of age. Three of the couple's children, Catherine, Matilda and Samuel lived with their parents in 1860. Also still living with the family in 1860 were, Nathaniel Lynch, age 78 and born in Maryland, who may have been a brother of Mary's, and Abraham Young, age 19 and born in Ohio, who had attended school within the year.13

Heaton Sources II wrote about Myles Heaton in Chapter 18, "Robert Heaton of Bucks County", Pennsylvania in the section of the chapter reserved for families and individuals who the author believed were not directly connected to the Robert Heaton (Yorkshire) branch of Heatons, but who had lived in the eastern Pennsylvania area about the same time -- or were Quakers, as the Yorkshire Heatons were. The author stated that he had "not been able to sort out these families."

Then, in Chapter 31, "Mid Atlantic Heatons", Miles Heaton was included with a large number of additional Heatons the source identified as Heatons who had lived in Maryland, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and beyond that he had not been able to place with their correct families. Pennsylvania had the longest list and included Miles Heaton.1,2,3,4,5

Employment*25 June 1772 On 25 June 1772, brothers Moses and John Heaton were allotted to work on a road project in Loudoun County, Virginia, with their brother-in-law, William Laycock, as the surveyor. John Heaton's three oldest sons, William, Benjamin and John, were also allotted to work on the same project. Then, on 26 October 1772, upon a petition of sundry residents, John Heaton, Moses Heaton, Richard Williams and Joseph Bonham, or any three of them, being first duly sworn, were ordered to view the way for a road to be opened from the Valentine Quarter on the Potowmack River to Farling Ball's mill and store and report to the court whether it may be convenient to the public to open and clear the way. John Heaton, Moses Heaton and Joseph Bonham made their report to the court on 27 November 1772, stating they had found that the most convenient way was to go with or near the Old Road as far as Leonard May's fence, and from there take a direct course by Moses Heaton's to the mill and store. The road was ordered to be opened and to be deemed as a public road. Moses Heaton was appointed surveyor of the project, and was ordered to have the road cleared and to keep it in repair according to the law3,4,5 
Death*1777 and died in 1777 in Loudoun County. He was about 33 years of age and died leaving a widow and two children, a son John, and a daughter.2

Relocation*1820After leaving the Pennsylvania Legislature, about 1820, Nancy's husband Rees went to Frederick County, Virginia, where, over a period of years, he attempted to collect together the estate of their grandfather, Henry Bowen, and also the estates of two of their uncles, Ensign Rees Bowen and Sergeant Henry Bowen, who had died in the Revolutionary War. It is not known to us yet whether or not his wife Nancy and any of their children went with him to Virginia, or if he travelled the distance of about 165 miles alone. Did he commute between the two locations, or did he actually reside there?7 
EstateFor a time, her husband's efforts were successful as he worked on the three estates of their relatives in Frederick County, Virginia. Eventually, though, he over-extended himself and got into financial straits. Nancy died during this time, and the litigation on the estates was still in the courts when Rees died more than twenty years later.7
