They had been married for 24 years, reporting their year of marriage as about 1876, and Araminta had given birth to one child and he was living. In the census of 1880, 20 years earlier, John's age had been recorded as 40 and Araminta's as 25.7 
(Elder Daughter) Will3 February 1902Araminta's father, Thomas M. Wiser of Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, prepared his will dated 3 February 1902 in which he identified his three children: Araminta, wife of John Reading Johnson, Elizabeth, widow of Sylvester Rhoads, and Owen Jacob Wiser. Below is our transcript of his will as Thomas prepared it:

In the name of God, Amen. I Thomas M. Wiser of Doylestown Township, Bucks County, state of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind, memory and understanding, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make and publish this my will and testament in manner and form as follows.

First. It is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied by my hereinafter named Executor as soon as conveniently can be after my decease.

Item. I order and direct that my Executor sell at public or private sale within one year after my death all my real and personal property I may own at the time of my death and I do hereby empower and authorize my executor to sign, seal and execute all such deeds as may be requisite and necessary to assure the property to the purchasers thereof.

Item. I give and bequeath all the money arising out of my real estate and personal property coming into the hands of my executor, after deducting the aforesaid payments and just charges and expenses, that he shall distribute as follows:

Item. The remainder to be to my three children in equal shares: one share to Araminta, intermarried to John Reading Johnson; one share to Elizabeth, widow of Sylvester Rhoads; and one share to Owen Jacob Wiser, my son.

And, lastly. I constitute and appoint my son Owen Jacob Wiser as my sole executor of this, my will, declaring this to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.

The will was signed and sealed in the presence of witnesses Henry Barner and Abraham Barner by Thomas M. Wiser on 3 February 1902.8 
(Elder Daughter) Probate7 May 1903Her father's last will and testament was duly proved when Letters Testamentary were granted on 7 May 1903 to her brother, Owen Jacob Wiser, the sole executor named in the will.8 
(Mother) Census US 191026 April 1910Araminta's husband was enumerated on the 1910 census taken on 23 and 26 April 1910 in the household of their son and daughter-in-law, Adelaide and Allen H. Johnson, on Allentown Road, Salford, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Araminta's husband was 72 years of age and worked as a farm laborer. Araminta was not included in the list of individuals in her son's household in 1910, although other records indicate she also lived there at the time. She was 55 years of age and had suffered with kidney disease for the past two years, and would die of the disease, probably in her son's home, in May of the following year.9 
Death*10 May 1911She died of general dropsy due to chronic nephritis on 10 May 1911 in Salford, Montgomery County, at age 561,10

We've learned from our research that Sylvester prepared his will about eleven months after the birth of the couple's first child, Flossie, and that their second child, Arthur, was born ten months before Sylvester's death. Below is our transcript of his will as Sylvester prepared it:

In the name of God, Amen. I Sylvester Rhoads of Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, state of Pennsylvania, farmer, being of sound mind, memory and understanding, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void a former will which is in the hands of Oliver G. Morris of Line Lexington, County and State aforesaid, and all former wills by me at any time heretofore made.

Item. After my death I give and bequeath annually to the Seaton of the Montgomery Baptist Church of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, $10 to be used for the purpose of keeping my father Samuel Rhoads’s and my own burial lots in proper condition.

Item. The income of the balance of my real and personal estate, whatsoever and wheresoever the same may be and not hereinbefore given and disposed of, after paying my debts and funeral expenses, I give said income to my wife Elizabeth during her lifetime, and after the death of my wife, the said estate to be divided equally between my children.

And I do hereby constitute and appoint my wife Elizabeth and H. C. Harrar as Executrix and Executor of this my last will and testament.

Census US 1910*6 May 1910Elizabeth and Allen W. Hunsberger were enumerated on the 1910 census taken on 6 May 1910 in Hatfield, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Allen was 46 years of age and a farmer, and Elizabeth was recorded as 48 years of age. They owned their farm with a mortgage, had been married for six years and both of Elizabeth's children from her previous marriage were living. Her daughter Flossie was enumerated in the Hunsberger's household in 1910. She was 18 years old and worked for wages as a home servant.11 
(Wife) Death7 September 1917Elizabeth became a widow for the second time when Allen W. Hunsberger died on 7 September 1917 at age 52.12 
Census US 1920*28 January 1920Elizabeth Hunsberger was enumerated on the 1920 census taken on 27 and 28 January 1920 at 127 West Sixth Street, Lansdale, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She was a widow, 60 years of age and owned her house free of mortgage. Her daughter, Flossie Rhoads, was the only other member of the household. Flossie was single, 27 years of age and worked as a telephone operator.13 
Census US 1930*22 April 1930She was again enumerated as Elizabeth Hunsberger on the 1930 census taken on 22 April 1930 at Lansdale, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Nothing had changed, except her age was 70 in 1930, and her daughter Flossie was age 37 and still working as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company. They had a radio set and Elizabeth's house was valued at $3,500.14 
Census US 1940*15 April 1940Mother and daughter, Elizabeth Hunsberger and Flossie Rhoads, were enumerated together again on the 1940 census taken on 15 April 1940 at Lansdale, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth was 80 years of age and her house was valued at $2,800 in 1940, and Flossie was 48 years of age and continued to work as a telephone operator.15

In the name of God, Amen. I Thomas M. Wiser of Doylestown Township, Bucks County, state of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind, memory and understanding, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make and publish this my will and testament in manner and form as follows.

First. It is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied by my hereinafter named Executor as soon as conveniently can be after my decease.

Item. I order and direct that my Executor sell at public or private sale within one year after my death all my real and personal property I may own at the time of my death and I do hereby empower and authorize my executor to sign, seal and execute all such deeds as may be requisite and necessary to assure the property to the purchasers thereof.

Item. I give and bequeath all the money arising out of my real estate and personal property coming into the hands of my executor, after deducting the aforesaid payments and just charges and expenses, that he shall distribute as follows:

Item. The remainder to be to my three children in equal shares: one share to Araminta, intermarried to John Reading Johnson; one share to Elizabeth, widow of Sylvester Rhoads; and one share to Owen Jacob Wiser, my son.

The couple's two daughters were enumerated with them in 1860. Araminta was 5 years old and Elizabeth's age was 10 months.7 
(Son-in-Law) Will5 September 1868Thomas's father-in-law, Owen Heaton on Hilltown Township, Bucks County, prepared his will dated 5 September 1868 in which he identified his three surviving children, a son-in-law and a grandson. He appointed his daughter, Mary Margaret Heaton, and son-in-law, Thomas M. Wiser, to be his Executors.

His will directed his executors to sell all of his real and personal property within one year after his death and to distribute the proceeds as follows: The sum of $200 to his daughter Mary Margaret in advance, and the remainder in equal shares to his three children and his grandchild Edmund E. Bitting, being four shares. One share each to Mahlon Heaton, Mary Margaret Heaton, Eliza, intermarried to Thomas M. Wiser, and Edmund E. Bitting.

The will stated that in case his death occurred before his said grandson attained the age of 21 years, his Executors were directed to have a guardian appointed by the Orphans Court who shall receive his share and hold it in trust until he attained said age and then receive his share from said guardian. The will added that in case of the death of said grandson Edmund E. Bitting, during his minority or at any age without children, the said bequest to him was ordered and directed to be paid by his estate to Owen's three hereinbefore named children in equal shares.

The will directed that in case the sum of $200, or any part thereof, his son Mahlon M. Heaton borrowed of Miss Thomas, for which his father Owen Heaton was bound as security, and that he or his estate shall have to pay, his will ordered that the said amount with interest due, or so much thereof as will be collected from his estate, shall be deducted from Mahlon's share coming to him from his father's estate.10

Thomas was 38 years of age and a farmer with a personal estate valued at $1,000, and Eliza was 39 years of age and keeping house. Two of their children were enumerated with their parents in 1870. Araminta was 15 years old, worked as a domestic servant, and was also attending school; and Owen Jacob was 8 years old, at home, and attending school. The couple's middle child, Elizabeth, was enumerated that year with her paternal grandparents, Elizabeth and Jacob Wiser, in Hilltown Township, Bucks County.11,12

Also residing with the family in 1880 was Henry Heintz, age 13 years old, who was recorded as a servant, and who worked as a laborer. Neither Owen nor Henry had attended school within the census year.15

Thomas was 68 years of age and a farmer, and Eliza was 69 years of age. They owned their farm with a mortgage, had been married for 48 years, and Eliza had given birth to four children, three of whom were living.8 
(Husband) Death14 July 1900Thomas became a widower when Eliza (Heaton) Wiser died on 14 July 1900 at age 69.9 
Will*3 February 1902Thomas M. Wiser of Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, prepared his will dated 3 February 1902 in which he identified his three children: Araminta, wife of John Reading Johnson, Elizabeth, widow of Sylvester Rhoads, and Owen Jacob Wiser. Below is our transcript of his will as Thomas prepared it:

In the name of God, Amen. I Thomas M. Wiser of Doylestown Township, Bucks County, state of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind, memory and understanding, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make and publish this my will and testament in manner and form as follows.

First. It is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied by my hereinafter named Executor as soon as conveniently can be after my decease.

Item. I order and direct that my Executor sell at public or private sale within one year after my death all my real and personal property I may own at the time of my death and I do hereby empower and authorize my executor to sign, seal and execute all such deeds as may be requisite and necessary to assure the property to the purchasers thereof.

Item. I give and bequeath all the money arising out of my real estate and personal property coming into the hands of my executor, after deducting the aforesaid payments and just charges and expenses, that he shall distribute as follows:

Item. The remainder to be to my three children in equal shares: one share to Araminta, intermarried to John Reading Johnson; one share to Elizabeth, widow of Sylvester Rhoads; and one share to Owen Jacob Wiser, my son.
