(Son) Estate6 October 1552Thomas was named in his father's will dated 17 June 1552 and proved on 6 October 1552 at Consistory Court of Lincoln, Lincolnshire. His will showed John Heaton to be a prosperous yeoman, who conducted considerable husbandry with bees, sheep, cattle, horses, and oxen. The last year of his life he had hoped to harvest beans, peas, and wheat. He rented land in Wragby and owned a cottage in Normanby-le-Wold, and his bequests of gold to James, Thomas, Edward, and Beatrix indicated an unusual degree of affluence. By his father's will of 1552, Thomas received a pair of oxen, five ewes, five lambs, a mare and a foal, an acre of wheat, an acre of beans, two hives of bees, 10s in gold, 6s 8d a year rent from the lease of Wragby land, his father's best coat, doublet and hat, and a great counter "which should remain in the name of Heaton as long as it will last." It was suggested by earlier researchers that this counter may have been included in the furniture bequeathed by Thomas to his eldest son, John. For additional information regarding his specific bequests to others, excerpts of his will are included in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register source.2

Birth*1769Thomas Heaton was born in 1769, probably in York County, Pennsylvania.1
Taxation*1789Thomas was taxed £116 on 300 acres of land, 3 horses and 2 cows in East Bethlehem, Washington County, Pennsylvania, in 1789.2
Marriage*He married Martha __?__.3
Census US 1800*1800Thomas Heaton appeared on the census taken in 1800 in Somerset, Washington County, Pennsylvania. The household consisted of 5 people, 1 free white male aged 26 thru 44, 1 free white female aged 26 thru 44, 2 free white males aged 16 thru 25 and 1 free white female aged 10 thru 15.4
Loan Agreement*30 May 1807"For value received of him", Thomas signed a promissory note on 30 May 1807 for £24,3s 9p to be paid to his brother John Heaton on 01 October 1808. Among other administration documents was a statement made by John Heaton that the note was given to him by Thomas Heaton a few days before Thomas "descended the river to New Orleans."3
Illness*June 1807It appears that in June 1807 Martha's husband Thomas traveled by river to New Orleans, Louisiana, and was planning to be away for some time. He then appears to have become ill, either there or on his way home, and may have borrowed money from his uncle Jeremiah in Maryland during that time. It also appears his wife Martha joined him for part of his way home because she was later reimbursed $4.98 by his administration for "my expenses and two horses for 6 days" from 14 April 1808. Thomas arrived home very sick, probably on 14 April 1808, and borrowed money from his brother Washington for his final expenses.3
Loan Agreement14 April 1808 On 14 April 1808, during his last sickness, Thomas Heaton received a loan of $15.50 from his brother Washington Heaton for the purpose of discharging his bills. Administration documents show that Washington's loan was needed immediately for $5 for a doctor and $10 for burial expenses.3
Death*14 April 1808He probably died on 14 April 1808 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, at about age 39.3
Administration*24 April 1808Administration was opened on 24 April 1808 for the estate of Thomas Heaton late of Somerset, Washington County, Pennsylvania. His widow Martha Heaton and Duncan Campbell were appointed Administrators and paid the sum of $2.50 to Isaac Kerr, Register, for taking bond and granting Letters of Administration.3
