Helen Olive Scott1
b. 1864, d. 1926
Birth* | 1864 | Helen Olive Scott was born about 1864 in Iowa.1 |
Name Variation | | She was called Ollie.1,2,3 |
Marriage* | 1883 | She married Hiram Rundell about 1883.1,2,3 |
Census US 1910* | 10 May 1910 | Helen and Hiram Rundell were enumerated on the 1910 census taken on 9 and 10 May 1910 in Rice, Ringgold County, Iowa. Hiram was 58 years of age and a general farmer, and Helen O. was 46 years of age. They were both able to read and write, rented their farm, had been married for 26 years, the first marriage for each, and Helen had given birth to eight children, six of whom were living. Five of their children, and three grandchildren, were enumerated with them in 1910. Their older sons, Dallas E. and Albert J., were ages 21 and 19 years, respectively, able to read and write, and worked for wages as farm laborers on the family farm; and Laura E. and Daniel S. were ages 14 and 12 years, respectively, and able to read and write. Their daughter, Losha Emanuel, who had married in 1905, was enumerated with her three children in her parents' household in 1910. Losha was 22 years of age, able to read and write, and was recorded as a widow, although her husband, Charles Emanuel, was alive and had been recorded as married a month earlier, in April 1910, when he was enumerated with his parents, Edna and John Emanuel, in Dawson County, Nebraska. Their children, John Emanuel, Alice J. Emanuel and Beulah Emanuel, ages 4 years, 3 years and eight months, respectively, were enumerated with their mother in the household of their maternal grandparents.4 |
Census US 1920* | 9 March 1920 | Olive and Hiram Rundell were enumerated on the 1920 census taken about 9 March 1920 in Lotts Creek Township, Ringgold County, Iowa. Hiram was 73 years of age and a general farmer and employer, and Olive was 55 years of age. They rented their farm. Two of their unmarried children were enumerated with them. Laura E. was 20 years old and Daniel S. was age 19. Also residing with the couple in 1920 was a married daughter, Losha M., with her husband, Henry Fassler, and three children from Losha's previous marriage, Johnny Emanuel, Joey Emanuel and Beulah Emanuel. The couple's daughter, Losha, was 35 years of age, her husband, Henry, who had immigrated from Germany in 1897, was 38 years of age and worked for wages as a general farmer, likely for his father-in-law. Losha's children’s surname was spelled "Manieul" by the census taker, and transcribed as "Mariscal" by Ancestry. Johnny was 13 years old. Alice was recorded as Joey, although the census taker spelled her name as "Joe E." She was 11 years old and had attended school within the census year. And the youngest, Beulah, was 9 years old and, like her sister, had attended school within the census year. Everyone in the household was able to read, write and speak English.5 |
