John was 33 years of age and a farmer, and Jane was 29 years of age. Five children were enumerated with the couple, three sons and two daughters. Jane and George were ages 9 and 7 years, respectively; Elizabeth A. and John were ages 5 and 3 years, respectively; and the baby Walter was one year old. The McKee family's religion was recorded as Episcopalian. Jane's Mother, Elizabeth Hinds, and brother, Charles Hinds, their surname spelled "Hind", were enumerated, each separately, although both on the same census page as the McKee family.1,4 
Research Notes* Although the McKee family, as well as Elizabeth and Charles Hinds, were all enumerated on the 1851 census in the township of Zorra in Oxford County, they were all noted to actually reside in the township of Guelph, Wellington County, Ontario Province.4 
Census Canada 1861*14 January 1861Jane and John McKee were enumerated on the 1861 census taken as of 14 January 1861 in West Zorra, Oxford County, Ontario Province, Canada. John was recorded as 47 years of age and worked as a farmer, and Jane was recorded as 30 years of age. We note that ten years earlier, on the 1851 census, John was recorded as 33 years of age and Jane as age 29. Eight children were enumerated with their parents in 1861. Jane, George, Elizabeth and John were ages 17, 15, 14 and 12 years, respectively, and had all attended school within the census year; Walter and Joseph were ages 9 and 8 years, respectively; and Mary and Ellen were ages 5 and 2 years, respectively. Jane's mother Elizabeth Hinds, whose surname was spelled "Hynes", was also enumerated with the family in 1861. She was recorded as 50 years of age and single. Joseph was 45 years of age, had immigrated to the United States in 1878, lived in the U.S. for 22 years, was a naturalized citizen, and worked as a farmer. Elizabeth was 35 years of age. They rented their farm, had been married for 20 years, and Elizabeth had given birth to eight children, six of whom were living, and enumerated with their parents in 1900. The five oldest, John E., Frances L., James W., Victoria and Jessie were ages 19, 17, 16, 12 and 10 years, respectively, and were all at school, and had attended school for nine months of the census year; the baby, Howard, was ten months old. Everyone in the family, with the exception of Howard, was able to read. write and to speak English.12

Joseph was 56 years of age and a general farmer working on his own account, and Lizzie was 46 years of age. They owned their farm with a mortgage, were reported as being married for 36 years, although it was actually 30 years, the first marriage for each. Elizabeth was reported to have given birth to nine children, eight of whom were living, and four children were enumerated with them in 1910. Howard J. and Goldie B. were ages 10 and 9 years, respectively, and had both attended school within the census year; and Sidney A. and Clifford D. were ages 4 and 2 years, respectively. English was the family's language and, except for the two youngest, everyone was able to read and write.13

Joseph was 67 years of age and a general farmer working on his own account, Elizabeth was 54 years of age, and they owned their farm free of mortgage. Joseph's year of immigration was recorded as 1880 and his year of naturalization as 1886. Four of their children were enumerated with them in 1920. Goldie B. was 18 years old, had completed her schooling, and was able to read and write; Sydney A. and Clifford D. were ages 14 and 11 years, respectively, had both attended school within the census year, and were able to read and write; and Kenneth L. was 9 years old. We suspect he had attended school within the census year and was learning, even if not yet able, to read and write, although the answer to the question next to Kenneth's name was left blank by the census taker. Everyone in the family spoke English, Goldie was recorded "No", while Sydney and Clifford were recorded "Yes", to having attended school within the census year, and everyone except Kenneth was recorded "Yes" to being able to read and write.14

Frank was 34 years of age and a blacksmith working on his own account, and Martha was recorded as 37 years of age. She had immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1884 and had lived in the United States for 16 years. They had been married for 12 years and Martha had not given birth to any children. They owned their house with a mortgage, and were both able to read, write and to speak English.10 
(Daughter) Death18 March 1901Martha's stepfather, John Palmer, died on 18 March 1901 at the Wilson home in Lake View, Sac County, Iowa. Martha's mother and stepfather had been living with Martha and her husband, Frank, since moving from Canada to Lake View the previous fall.11,12,13 
Census US 1910*30 April 1910Martha and Frank Z. Wilson were enumerated on the 1910 census taken on 30 April 1910 at 210 2nd Avenue N.E., Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota. Frank was 45 years of age and worked for wages as an engineer for the railroad, and Martha was also 45 years of age. They had been married for 22 years, the first marriage for each, they owned their house free of mortgage, and Martha had not given birth to any children. Two roomers were enumerated in their household in 1910. Both were men, single, and 22 years of age. One worked for wages as a lunch counter waiter, and the other was employed for wages as a teacher in a public school. Everyone in the Wilson household spoke English and was able to read and write.14 
Divorce*between 1920 and 1930Martha and Frank were divorced between 1920 and 1930. They were together as married on the 1920 census and, on the 1930 census, Martha was recorded as a widow. On Frank's death certificate in 1943, he was reported by his sister, Cora (Wilson) Stokes, to have been divorced.15,16

Frank was 53 years of age and worked for wages as a machinist for the city, and Martha was 54 years of age. They rented their house in 1920, and Martha's year of immigration from Canada was reported as 1884, and her year of naturalization as 1888.17 
(Sister) Death5 April 1926Martha, who gave her address as Aberdeen, South Dakota, was the informant who signed the death certificate information for her brother, John McKee, when he died on 5 April 1926 in Rock Falls, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, at age 77.18 
Census US 1930*4 April 1930Martha Wilson was enumerated as the head of her household on the 1930 census taken on 4 April 1930 at 206 2nd Avenue, Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota. She was recorded as a widow, although her husband was alive and in Oregon. Martha was 64 years of age, had been 22 years old when she married, and owned her house which was valued at $4,500. She did not own a radio set.16

Andrew had two sons from his first marriage, whom were primarily with their maternal grandmother and deceased mother's sisters. Ira and Floyd Meadows were ages 10 and 8 years, respectively. And Andrew had one daughter, Orpha, from his second marriage, who was 3 years old and with her mother. Nellie had not been married before and had no children.1 
Census US 1900*30 June 1900Nellie and Andrew Meadows were enumerated on the 1900 census taken on 30 June 1900 in Washington, Delaware County, Indiana. Andrew was 41 years of age, worked as a Brick Mason, and had been unemployed for two months of the census year, and Nellie was 28 years of age. They had been married for nine years, rented their house, and Nellie had given birth to three children, all of whom were living. Andrew and Nellie were both able to read, write and speak English. The couple's three children were enumerated with them in 1900. May M. was 8 years old and had attended school for six months of the census year; and Charlene B. and Lester M. were ages 5 and 3 years, respectively.5 
Divorce*Nellie and Andrew separated, and were likely divorced, before Nellie married a second time in September of 1908.6,7,8,9,10 
Marriage*5 September 1908She married second, as his third wife, Charles A. Crandall, son of Andrew J. Crandall and Emaline Boswell, on 5 September 1908 in Grant County, Indiana. Both Charles and Nellie were divorced and, between them, had eight children. Charles had three children from his first marriage, Courtney, Elsie and Chester, ages 19, 16 and 13 years, respectively, and two daughters, Leona and Mary, who were about 3 and 2 years old, respectively, from his second. Nellie had three children, Mae, Charlene and Lester, ages 16, 13 and 11 years, respectively, from her first marriage.6 
Divorce*Nellie and Charles separated not long after their marriage, and were likely divorced. Charles married again, for the fourth time, on 11 November 1911, and Nellie married again, for the third time, on 13 November 1911.10,9,6,8,7 
Research Notes* Neither Andrew J. Meadows nor Nellie (McKeever) Meadows Crandall have been identified with any certainty on the 1910 census, although we did learn that Nellie died in 1917, after marrying for a third time in 1911, and that Andrew was enumerated on the 1920 census in the household of their daughter, Charlene, who had married in 1914. We wondered where their three children, Mae, Charlene and Lester Meadows, were in 1910, and began to search for them. We learned that Mae, who was 18 years old, had married James David Holt in February 1910, and that they were enumerated that year with her husband's father and stepmother in Clinton, Indiana. It took us longer to find the two younger children, Charlene and Lester, who were ages 15 and 12 years, respectively. We were surprised to find them both enumerated in 1910 at the Grant County Orphans Home in Center, Indiana, and were happy they were together.11,2,8,9,10 
Marriage*13 November 1911Nellie married third, as his first wife, Louis W. Miller, son of Fred Miller and Ella Katherine Steffen, on 13 November 1911 in Indiana. Nellie's date of birth was transcribed as 18 December 1895, and her age as 15 years, although she was actually 39 years of age, and Louis was 22 years of age.12,2,7,8
