Isaac Sharp1

b. 13 April 1750, d. 12 February 1831
Father*William Sharp2
Mother*Mary __?__2
Birth*13 April 1750Isaac Sharp was born on 13 April 1750 in South Carolina.3,2,1
(Son) RelocationAfter his birth, Isaac's parents moved their family to Virginia.3
Occupation*1776Isaac received a letter from his mother in 1776 which indicated that Isaac was then teaching school. The letter was addressed to him in care of Morgan Morgan, a prominent lay member of the Episcopal Church who resided at Bibker Hill, Berkeley County, Virginia.2,3
Research Notes* The 1776 letter to Isaac from his mother is of special interest to us. The Wolverton source stated that his mother had signed her name to the letter as Mrs. Mary Wilson, indicating that her husband, Isaac's father was deceased and that she had married again. However, the same source, on the same subject, referred to Isaac's mother as Mary (Wolverton) Sharp, who was actually his wife. The Washington County source included a transcription of Isaac's mother's 1776 letter to him. The transcription, however, did not include a reference to how she signed her name. Of interest, though, is the fact that she wrote in her letter, "We are talking of going to South Carolina again next spring. John's son John, who lives there was here, but I hardly think we will go." Her words have made us think that her second husband may have been a John Wilson, who had a son, John, who lived in South Carolina in 1776.2,3
Marriage*1777He married Mary Wolverton, daughter of John Wolverton and Abigail Darby, in 1777 in that part of Virginia that became West Virginia.1,2
Residence*Isaac and Mary (Wolverton) Sharp settled on McNarlin's Run, about three miles northwest of Waynesburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, which eventually became Greene County.3
Occupation*Brothers-in-law Isaac Sharp and Timothy Ross were surveyors in partnership, and both were patentees of land near Waynesburg, Washington County.4
(Husband) Death26 August 1822Isaac became a widower when Mary (Wolverton) Sharp died on 26 August 1822.3,5
Death*12 February 1831He died on 12 February 1831 at Waynesburg at age 806,7
Burial* and was buried by the side of his wife in the Waynesburg Old Cemetery.3

Rebecca Naylor (Sharp) Heaton
ChartsDescendants of John Heaton of Lincolnshire, including the Immigrant Nathaniel
Father*Isaac Sharp Jr.1 b. 1792, d. c 1866
Mother*Eliza Ann Naylor1 b. 1796
Birth*4 July 1816Rebecca Naylor Sharp was born on 04 June 1815 or 4 July 1816 in Pennsylvania.3,4,2,5
Marriage*26 October 1834She married Weaver Heaton, son of Jacob Bowen Heaton and Rachel Weaver, on 26 October 1834 in Pennsylvania.1,2,6,7,8,9
Residence*Weaver and Rebecca established their home in Millsborough, Washington County, Pennsylvania.10,11
Census US 1840*1840Rebecca's husband, Weaver Heaton, was enumerated as Head of Household on the 1840 census taken in Millsborough, Washington County, Pennsylvania, on the same page as Rebecca's father. Weaver's household contained more people than his own family, and one wonders who the others were. Weaver, himself, was likely the one male between the ages of 30 through 39 and his wife Rebecca was likely the one female between the ages of 20 through 29. Their two children, Emaline and James, would be the one male and one female under 5. That leaves one male ages 60 through 69, two males ages 20 through 29 and two females ages 15 through 19 unaccounted for.10
Census US 1850*9 August 1850Weaver and Rebecca Heaton appeared on the 1850 Census taken on 9 August 1850 in Millsborough, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Weaver was 40 years old, and his occupation was millwright. There was nothing shown for the value of his real estate. Rebecca was age 34, and living with the couple were their six children. Emaline was 14, James 12, Rachel 9, Eliza 7, Henry 4 and William 2. John H. Sharp, who was age 19 and had attended school within the year, also resided with the family. Although he has not yet been identified, he is thought to have probably been a relative of Weaver's wife, Rebecca. All members of the household had been born in Pennsylvania. Enumerated in the next household was Rebecca's sister Rachel with her husband, Joel Grabill.5
RelocationSometime between the dates of the 1850 and 1860 censuses, Weaver and Rebecca Heaton moved to Greenfield, Washington County, Pennsylvania, a community which later became Coal Center.8,11,12
Census US 1860*17 July 1860Weaver and Rebecca Heaton appeared on the 1860 census taken on 17 July 1860 in the borough of Greenfield, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Weaver's age was 49, he was a millwright and the value of his real estate was shown as $700 and of his personal estate as $200. They lived with their children. James was age 21 and working as a ship carpenter. Rachel was 18, Eliza 17, Henry 14, William 11, and twins George and Ella, who were 8 years of age.13
Census US 1870*21 June 1870Weaver and Rebecca Heaton appeared on the 1870 census taken on 21 June 1870 in the borough of New Haven, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Weaver was age 60, a millwright, and the estimated value of his personal estate was $400. Rebecca was age 55, and keeping house. Three of their children were still living in the household. William was 22 years of age and working in a sash factory, George was 18 years of age, had attended school within the year and was also working in a sash factory, Ella was age 18 and had not attended school within the year. Rebecca's mother, Eliza A. Sharp, who was 73 years of age with real estate valued at $500, also lived with the family.14
(Sister) Census US 187029 July 1870Their son Henry appeared on the 1870 census taken on 29 July 1870 in the household of her brother and his wife, John and Ann Sharp, in Taylor, Appanoose County, Iowa. William Sharp1

Marriage*He married Mary __?__.1
Immigration*1749 Reported by the Washington County source to have been of Scotch-Irish ancestry, Mary and William Sharp emigrated from their native land in 1749 and settled first in South Carolina.2
Relocation*After the birth of their son, William and Mary moved their family to Virginia.2
Death*A 1776 letter from his wife to their son Isaac may have indicated that William was then deceased and that his wife had remarried.2,1
(Father) Research Notes The 1776 letter to Isaac from his mother is of special interest to us. John's son John, who lives there was here, but I hardly think we will go." Her words have made us think that her second husband may have been a John Wilson, who had a son, John, who lived in South Carolina in 1776.1,2
