They lived on a farm which they rented, had been married for 10 years, the first marriage for each, and Harriet had given birth to four children, three of whom were living. Their daughter, Mabel, was 7 years old and had attended school within the census year; and their two sons, William F. and Wendell, were ages 3 and 2 years, respectively. Harriet's father, Henry D. Gillespie, and four of her younger siblings were also enumerated in the Humphreys household in 1910. Henry D. was a widower, 50 years of age, and worked as merchant of a retail store on his own account. Harriet's brother, H. Oad Gillespie, was 19 years old and worked for wages as a laborer in a lumber yard. He had not been out of work on 15 April 1910, and had not been without work for any weeks in 1909.
