(Older Son) Will6 February 1821His father prepared his will, which was written with many misspellings, on 6 February 1821 in Barren County, Kentucky, naming his wife, Betsy Wheeler, his older son, William, his daughters, Deliah, Polly and Fanny, his younger son, Micajah, and his son-in-law, Reuben Kinslow, husband of his deceased daughter, Amy.

His wife, during her lifetime, was the primary beneficiary of all of his land and most of his household furniture and stock. Each of his five children, when they came of age or married, was to receive a beast, bridle and saddle, and one good bed. His instructions were clear about wanting each of his five surviving children's total share of his estate, within twelve months after his wife's death, to be made equal in value after the sale of his remaining land, household furniture and stock. He included the direction that "Delilah, Polly and Fanny is to be learnt to read and rite", and that "William and Micajah to be well educated." He gave Reuben Kinslow, widower of his deceased daughter Amy, one horse, a cow and calf, and the bed and furniture that had been Amy's in her lifetime and, at that time, was in Reuben's possession.

He appointed his wife Betsy Wheeler as Executrix, and his son William as Executor to his Estate.

He signed and sealed his name John Wheeler, which was witnessed by his brother, Bond Wheeler, and brothers-in-law, Pleasant Emmerson and Joseph Coleman, husbands of his sisters, Polly and Elizabeth, respectively.5 
Marriage Bond*4 March 1833A marriage bond was issued in the amount of £50 to William E. Wheeler and Zachariah Emmerson in Barren County, Kentucky, on 4 March 1833, the condition of the obligation being the intended marriage shortly to be solemnized between William E. Wheeler and Judith Emmerson, Zachariah's daughter.2

(2nd Son-in-Law) Will25 July 1850His father-in-law, Zachariah Emmerson, prepared his will dated 25 July 1850 in Barren County, Kentucky, directing first that his land was to be divided by running a line, beginning at the top of the knoll on the Wheeler line, down by the apple orchard, passing by the spring on the north side, down the spring branch to a sugar tree below the fence, up a hollow or valley to the line of A. C. Kinslow, so as to leave 100 acres of land between the aforesaid line and the line between his, Zachariah's, tract and that of A. C. Kinslow, and between the aforesaid line and that of the Wheeler tract. His will then gave the 100 acres of land created by the division to his son William Emmerson, and the other half of his land, not given to William Emmerson, including his dwelling house and all the other buildings, to his daughter Martha, to be a home for her as long as she should live.

His will then made additional bequests and named all of his surviving heirs, his sons, John S. Emmerson, William Emmerson and Pleasant Emmerson, daughters, Martha Emmerson, Judith Wheeler and Mary Wheeler, his deceased daughter, Susan (Emmerson) Emerson, her two sons, William Henry Emerson and Zacharias Joseph Emerson, and their father, with whom they lived, John C. Emerson.

His will also directed that his property was not to be appraised because he considered it a useless expense.

He appointed his son, John S. Emmerson, his son-in-law, William E. Wheeler, and his grandson, William Henry Emerson, as his Executors.

His will was witnessed by his uncle, Joshua Wheeler, and Edmund Davis.7 
Census US 1850*26 August 1850Judy and William E. Wheeler were enumerated on the 1850 census taken on 26 August 1850 in Division 1, Barren County, Kentucky. William was 43 years of age and a farmer with real estate valued at $2,100, and Judy was 41 years of age. Their seven children were enumerated with them in 1850. John H. was 16 years old, working as a farmer, and had attended school within the census year; Dianna, Elizabeth and Susan were ages 14, 12 and 9 years, respectively, and had all attended school within the census year; and the younger three boys, Zachariah, William and Micajah, were ages 7, 5 and 3 years, respectively. The family of William's brother, Micajah B. Wheeler, who had married Judy's sister, Mary (Emmerson) Wheeler, were enumerated in the next household on the same census page.3 
(Husband) Deathbefore 10 June 1870William became a widower when Judy (Emmerson) Wheeler died before 10 June 1870, the date William was enumerated without her on the 1870 census and was residing in the home of his son, Zack E. Wheeler.8 
Death*1871He died about 1871 in Barren County at about age 644 
Burial* and was buried in Wheeler Cemetery #1, Rocky Hill, Barren County.4

Zachariah was 63 years of age and a farmer with real estate valued at $480, and Martha was also age 63. Neither of them could read or write. Four of their children and a granddaughter were enumerated with them in 1850. Their son John and daughter Elizabeth were ages 23 and 21 years old, respectively, and neither could read or write; and their son Zachariah was 18 years old. The couple's married daughter, Ann Eliza (Wheeler) Britt, who in 1850 was likely a widow, was enumerated in her parent's household with her daughter Ursula A., who was 9 years old.9 
Death*between 29 August 1850 and 1 August 1860He probably died in Barren County, Kentucky, between 29 August 1850 and 1 August 1860, the dates of the 1850 and 1860 censuses. He was enumerated with his family in1850 and his widow was enumerated alone in1860. He would have likely been in his mid to late 60s or very early 70s when he died.9,10

He did not want his gray horse or roan mare to be sold, nor one young yoke of steers, cows and heifers, hogs and sheep. He directed that all his farming tools and personal property that could be spared, be sold to pay his debts. His tobacco was to be priced and freighted by H. P. Curd, and he wanted the transaction details, for the land he had recently sold to Obadiah Britt Sr., to be completed. He wanted Joseph Renfro to act as the Executor and Cestui que trust of his estate.

His will was signed and sealed by the X mark of M. E. Wheeler on 16 January 1851, and witnessed by John T. Rogers, John J. Curd and George M. Page, to the attention of: Travis Cockrill.3,4,5

(Witness to Agreement) Land Records23 February 1739Abraham White witnessed the agreement when Zebulon Field, a Taunton husbandman, and his wife Anne Field signed a 20-year lease with William Leonard of Norton, cordwainer, on 23 February 1739 for a certain parcel of land meadow and upland lying on the easterly side of the Mill River in Taunton.1 
Death*20 February 1801He died on 20 February 1801 in Taunton at age 84.2,3
