When Peter BONDY returned to the United States from Canada in 1840, his surname, as it was recorded, was spelled BONDY. By the early 1900's, Peter's surname, and the surname of most of his children, had begun to morph and was, in many cases, being recorded as BUNDY, although some of his children retained the BONDY surname. Over the years, as Peter made his way into the history books, he became known as Peter BUNDY.3,4,5,6

Her two children from her first marriage, David and James Bundy, who were both recorded with the surname Slusman, were enumerated in 1880 in the Slusman household. David was 5 years old and James was age 2. George's mother, Mary, whose surname was not recorded, appeared as Slusman in the transcription by Ancestry. Mary was 62 years of age, a widow, at home, and unable to read or write.11 
Miami Census 1881*10 September 1881Sac-o-choc-quah Slusman and her husband George W. Slusman were not listed together on the Miami Indian census taken on 10 September 1881 in Indiana. Sac-o-choc-quah, who was 25 years of age, was listed on her Miami Reserve as the wife of Slusman. Her two sons from her previous marriage, David and James Bundy, were listed with her, and were recorded with their stepfather's surname. David Slusman was 6 years old and James Slusman was age 2. Sac-o-choc-quah's sister, As-son-zo-mo-quah, alias Louisa Price, was listed with her daughter in the first previous household on the same census page. Louisa was 27 years of age and her daughter, Kil-so-quah, alias Anna Price, was 2 years old. George Slusman was listed with his mother, Tah-con-ze-quah, near Peru on the previous page of the census. His mother, who was 63 years of age, was identified as the widow of Coesse, whose name was recorded as "Ko-as-se". George was 25 years of age and identified as the son of Tah-con-ze-quah.8

Burial* and was buried in Slocum Cemetery, Wabash County.1 
(American Indian) Indian Names Getting the Native American Indian names in our project "right" has been a struggle for us because we have often seen the same person's name spelled in several different ways. This was, at first, both frustrating and stressful to those of us who strive for accuracy in the presentation of our research. When we learned that the Miami Indians, who feature prominently in our project, had no written language before their associations with the French and English who kept records by writing them down, we began to understand. It’s all very human. Not every person speaks their words in the same way, and each listener may hear the same words differently. So, it’s not surprising that, phonetically, when names were spoken, they would be written down as each individual listener heard them.12,13,14,15,16,17,18

Ann was a widow, 50 years of age and keeping house. Four of her children and her sister were enumerated in her home in 1880. Her daughter Annie was 24 years of age and at home; daughters Alice and Sallie were ages 20 and 18, respectively, and both were teaching; and her son Thomas was 15 years old, attending school and also helping on the family's farm. Ann's sister, Mollie Priest, was 28 years of age and helping with the housekeeping.7 
Census US 1900*6 June 1900Annie E. Hawkins was enumerated twice on the 1900 census, the first time on 6 June 1900 as the head of her household, in Clay, Ralls County, Missouri. She was a widow, 70 years of age, and a farmer who owned her farm free of mortgage. She had given birth to six children, all of whom were living. Enumerated with her in Missouri were her sister, Mary W. Priest, who the census taker identified as Annie's daughter, two daughters, Georgia (Hawkins) Priest and Alice (Hawkins) Abright, two grandchildren and two servants. Her sister Mary Priest was 46 years of age. Her daughter Georgia was a widow, 44 years of age, had been married for only two years and had given birth to no children. Daughter Alice was married and 38 years of age. She had been married for 18 years and had given birth to two children, both of whom were enumerated with her in their grandmother's home. Worden was 14 years old and Pauline was age 12. Both children had attended school for 8 months of the census year. The two servants were both employed as farm laborers.8
