Census US 187027 June 1870The household of Elizabeth and William Marlow was enumerated twice on the 1870 census taken first on 27 June 1870 in Township 35, Range 2 East, Iron County, Missouri. Their second enumeration was the following day in Township 31, Range 3 East, also in Iron County. The family may have been in the process of moving, and we suspect the person interviewed different, because the information recorded about the family members differs slightly between the two census records. On the earlier census taken in Township 35, William was 50 years of age, worked on a farm and had real estate valued at $100 and a personal estate valued at $500, and Elizabeth was 30 years of age and keeping house. Their three children were enumerated with them in 1870. Cincinnati was 8 years old; John A. was age 7 and William S. was 1 year old. The occupations for all three were recorded as "at home". Elizabeth's mother, Mary (McFadden) Wallis, also resided with the family in 1870. She was 66 years of age and also at home.4 
Census US 1870*28 June 1870The second enumeration of the household of Elizabeth J. and William Marlow for the 1870 census was taken on 28 June 1870 in Township 31, Range 3 East, Iron County, Missouri. William was 48 years of age and a farm laborer with a personal estate valued at $150, and Elizabeth was 30 years of age and keeping house. They could neither read nor write and were enumerated with their three children. Cincinnati was 9 years old, at home, and had attended school within the census year; and John A. and Billy were ages 7 and 2 years, respectively, at home, and not yet attending school. Also residing with the family in 1870 was Elizabeth's mother, Mary Wallis, who was reported as 66 years of age and at home. She, too, could neither read nor write. Elizabeth's brother, John Wallis, was enumerated with his wife and two young daughters in the previous household on the same census page.5 
(Husband) Deathbefore 19 August 1873William became a widower for the second time when Elizabeth J. (Wallis) Marlow died at about 30 years of age before 19 August 1873, the date of William's third marriage. Elizabeth's death left William with three children under the age of 10 years.11 
Marriage*19 August 1873He married third, as her second husband, Lucinda (Steele) Lee, daughter of John Steele Jr. and Elizabeth Pea, on 19 August 1873 in Iron County, Missouri. Lucy was a widow with four young children under the age of 5 years, and William had been widowed twice. He had three young children under the age of 10 years from his second marriage, and four grown daughters from his first.11 
Census US 1880*11 June 1880Lucy and William Marlow were enumerated on the 1880 census taken on 11 June 1880 in Des Arc, Iron County, Missouri. William was 63 years of age and a farmer, and Lucy was 32 years of age and keeping house. Unlike William, Lucy could both read and write. Enumerated with the couple in 1880 were William's two sons from his second marriage with Elizabeth Wallis, William and Lucy's three daughters, and Lucy's four children from her previous marriage with William Lee. John A. and William S. Marlow were ages 17 and 12 years, respectively. John could read and write, had attended school within the census year, and also worked on the family farm; and William was attending school, could not yet read and write, and was also worked on the family farm. Florence, Evaline and Artimissa Marlow were ages 6, 4, and 1 year, respectively, and not yet in school or working, and William, Samuel, John and Lizzie Lee were ages 13, 12, 10 and 8 years, respectively. The boys, William, Samuel and John had all attended school within the census year, while Lizzie had not.6 
Census US 1900*1 June 1900Lucy and William Marlow were enumerated on the 1900 census taken on 1 June 1900 in Mount Pleasant, Searcy County, Arkansas. William's age was recorded as 87 and he was a farmer working on his own account, and Lucy was 51 years of age. William could neither read nor write; and Lucy could both read and write. They had been married for 19 years and Lucy had given birth to 11 children, 8 of whom were living. They owned their farm free of mortgage. Their youngest daughter, Frances, was the only one of their children enumerated with them in 1900. She was 12 years old, could read and write, and had attended school for 3 months of the census year. She worked as a servant, and had been unemployed for 3 months of the census year.8 
(Husband) Death18 February 1909William became a widower for the third time when Lucinda (Steele) Lee Marlow died at age 60 on 18 February 1909 while visiting her son, John Ulysses Lee, in Witts Springs, Searcy County, Arkansas.12

(Applicant) Religion29 March 1805Zilpah Bolton and Nathaniel Everett, along with eight others which included George Briggs Cox, Peter Vallett, John Woodward, Lydia Sweetser, Sally Lovis, Mary Marnson, Ruth Thayer and Venus Sylvester, applied for membership in the Second Baptist Church, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, at a Friday evening meeting on 29 March 1805. The applicants spoke "with regard to works of grace upon their souls and after a candid and full examination, they were unanimously received into the fellowship as Candidates for baptism."2

Jacob was 44 years of age and a farmer with real estate valued at $2,500, and Elizabeth was 42 years of age. Three of the couple's children were enumerated in their household in 1850. Nathan was 17 years old and working as a farmer; Jacob was 12 years old; and Levina was just 3 years old. Also residing with the family in 1850 was Mary Claypole, age 11, whose relationship to the Wiser family, if any, was not identified. Jacob and Elizabeth's eldest child, Thomas M. Wiser, was enumerated with the William Slack family in Warminster, about 25 miles away from Hilltown. Thomas was 19 years old and working, or apprenticing, as a blacksmith.1

The couple's daughter, Levina Wiser, was 13 years old and had attended school within the year. Two other individuals were enumerated with the Wiser family in 1860. Gottlieb Feagley was 19 years old and worked as a farmhand, and Ruth Lewis was 14 years old and had attended school within the year. Enumerated in the next household on the same census page was the family of Jacob and Elizabeth's son and daughter-in-law, Wilhelmina and Nathan M. Wiser, and in the next household after Nathan and Wilhelmina was Wilhelmina's father.5

Their granddaughter, Elizabeth, daughter of their son Thomas, resided with her grandparents in 1870. She was 10 years old and attending school. Also enumerated with the Wisers that year were Ruth Lewis, who was 23 years old and worked for the family as a domestic servant, and William Seiple, age 17, who worked as a farm hand.6

Annie was 20 years old and at home, Jonathan was 19 years old and at school, Sallie was age 17, Mary was 15, Newton 13, and Alfred 9. All four of the younger children had attended school within the census year. Also enumerated with the family in 1880 was Eliza’s sister, Mary A. Marsh, who was 56 years of age.3

John's father and younger brother Benjamin were enumerated in their father's household a few entries before John's on the same census page.4

Census US 1880*15 June 1880Mary was enumerated on the 1880 census taken on 15 June 1880 in Virginia, Cass County, Illinois. She was 50 years of age, keeping house and recorded as married. Her husband John was not enumerated in the household and may have been away from home or died before the 1880 census was taken. Recorded in Mary's household were her three daughters, a son-in-law and her mother, Nancy Turner. Her daughter Hattie was 22 and a music teacher, Laura was 19 and not working, and Jessie was 17, had married William Hale, and worked as a clerk in a grocery. Jessie's husband also resided in the Beesley household in 1880. He was 20 years old and worked as a grocer. Nancy Turner, identified as Mary's mother, was also a resident of her household in 1880. Nancy was 74 years of age and a widow.2
