Melatiah Hooper1
b. 1744, d. 20 March 1825
Father-Probable* | | Nathaniel Hooper b. 16 Nov 1703, d. 27 Oct 1774; Because the Early Bridgewater source appears less certain regarding the Hoopers than the Hooper Genealogy, we believe it is more likely that she was the daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Tinkham) Hooper2,3,4 |
Mother-Probable* | | Elizabeth Tinkham b. 13 Feb 1704, d. 3 Feb 1780; Because the Early Bridgewater source appears less certain regarding the Hoopers than the Hooper Genealogy, we believe it is more likely that she was the daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Tinkham) Hooper2,3,4 |
Birth* | 1744 | Melatiah Hooper was born in 1744, and her parentage has not yet been proven. Because the Early Bridgewater source appears less certain regarding the Hoopers than the Hooper Genealogy, we believe it is more likely that she was the daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Tinkham) Hooper.2,3,4 |
Name Variation | | Melatiah may also have been called Millicent. The Hooper Genealogy called her "Millicent" as did her Bridgewater marriage record. She was recorded as "Melatiah" at the birth of each of her children and also in Mitchell's Bridgewater History.5,1,6,7 |
Marriage* | 30 October 1766 | She married Daniel Keith, son of Daniel Keith and Elizabeth Conant, on 30 October 1766 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts Bay Province (New England).8,9,10 |
(Wife) Death | 28 April 1803 | Melatiah became a widow when Daniel Keith died on 28 April 1803.8,11,12 |

Ruth Hooper1
b. 9 March 1691, d. 17 May 1755
(Daughter) Relationship Note | | Mitchell's 1840 Bridgewater History speculated that sisters Elizabeth Hooper and Ruth Hooper might have been the sisters of John Hooper. At the time this was likely a logical guess since Ruth and Elizabeth both appeared in Bridgewater as young women and not long after John's purchase of land there. Later research has confirmed to our satisfaction that they were actually the nieces of John Hooper of Bridgewater and the daughters of John's brother William Hooper of Reading who had died a few years before.2,3 |
Birth* | 9 March 1691 | Ruth Hooper was born on 9 March 1691 in Reading, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony (New England).2 |
Marriage* | 25 January 1709/10 | She married John Bolton, son of John Bolton and Sarah Chesebrough, on 25 January 1709/10 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts Bay Province (New England).4,1,2 |
Death* | 17 May 1755 | She died on 17 May 1755 in Bridgewater at age 64. The Backus record noted that she was the wife of "Ensign" John Bolton.5,6,7,8 |
Probate* | before 27 May 1755 | According to the Hooper Genealogy source, her estate was probated on 28 July 1755, which was actually the date her husband's estate was opened for probate. His will was written on 27 May 1755 and there was no mention of his wife, who had died 10 days before his will was written.2,9,10 |
Burial | | She and her husband, Ensign John Bolton, died within three weeks of each other and were buried in Mount Prospect Cemetery, Bridgewater.8,11 |
