Richard was 40 years of age and a farmer, and Phebe was 38 years of age. Eight children were enumerated with them in 1850. John was 18 years old and working with his father as a farmer; Sarah, George W. and Elizabeth were ages 17, 15 and 13 years, respectively; Hugh, James E. and William H. were ages 12, 11 and 6 years, respectively; and the baby, Minerva, was one year old. The couple's nephew, Thomas Bender, was also enumerated with the Williams family in 1850. Thomas, who was 18 years old and whose occupation was recorded as "none", was the son of Richard's sister, Rebecca Elizabeth Williams, and her husband, Isaac Bender.1
