In 1882 he was elected president of the Yorkshire Association of Baptist Churches. He took an active part in the public affairs of the town and, side by side with Dr. Mellor, fought many a battle in the cause of liberty of conscience. In 1884, he resigned his pastorate, and spent the remaining years of his life in London.5 |
