In the first half of the 1800' s the town was noted for two things: at Mount Lebanon was the largest and most important settlement of the Shakers, and at Lebanon Springs only a few miles to the North was one of the most popular Summer resorts. Some of the many hotels of that period are still standing, though showing their age. The Spa was evidently much frequented by Berkshire County people and was a favorite place for weddings.3,4,1 |
