His daughter, Isabelle F., was 18 years old and was employed for wages as a servant for a private family; Lillian A. and Betty J. were ages 15 and 14 years, respectively, and had attended school within the census year; and his sons, William A. and Harvey E., were ages 11 and 8 years, respectively, and had attended school within the census year. Willliam's mother, Isabelle Reeves, was 65 years of age and a widow, and his brother, Albert J., was 33 years of age, single, and worked, on his own account, as a typist for the Public.6

A total of eight servants, including Anne Leonard, Grace McGuire, Grace Foster, Margaret Sheridan, James Leddy, William Clarke, John Reilly and Terence Reilly, were a part of the Hinds household which consisted of Walter, age 20, and his mother, Jane (Smith) Hinds, age 45.

Walter Hinds was described as a farmer and a gentleman and his house was two stories high. At the time the census was taken, they had an Ellis family visiting overnight. The visitors included James Ellis, Mary Anne Martha Ellis, Mary Jane Ellis and Sally Jane Ellis. The seven other servants who resided there were Terence Reilly, also 19, William Clarke, 16, James Leddy, 30, Anne Leonard, 25, Grace McGuire, 25, Grace Foster, 22 and Margaret Sheridan, 25.1

(Party to Deed) Deed Memorial9 September 1766Thomas Reilly was a party to the transactions when Walter Hinds of Corrakane purchased the lands of Gortnatrieve and Behy, County Cavan, Ireland, in County Cavan on 9 September 1766 from James Fleming, soon to be of Bellville, County Cavan in a complicated series of documents which included the following memorial:

A memorial of deeds of lease and release intended, bearing dates respectively of 08 and 9 September 1766, the lease made or meant to be made between James Fleming of Killybandrick in the county of Cavan Esq., brother and heir of Arthur Fleming late of Bellville, County Cavan Esq. deceased, who was the eldest son and heir of Thomas Fleming formerly of Bellville aforesaid Esq. and Frances Hamilton otherwise Hamilton his wife both deceased, John Lloyd, George Moore, Thomas Reilly and Alexander Burrowes, of the first part and Walter Hinds in the County of Cavan gentleman of the other part, and the release made or meant to be made between the said James Fleming of the first part, the said John Lloyd of Gloster in the Kings County, barrister-at-law, George Moore of Moynehall in County Cavan, Thomas Reilly of Tiroukan in County Cavan, and Alexander Burrowes of Killyconnan in County Cavan and the said James Fleming of the second part and the said Walter Hinds of the third part. By which said deed of release the said John Lloyd, George Moore, Thomas Reilly, Alexander Burrowes and James Fleming, in consideration of £3,410 to them paid and of 10 shillings to the said James Fleming also paid by the said Walter Hinds, the receipt whereof is thereby acknowledged, they, the said John Lloyd, George Moore, Thomas Reilly, Alexander Burrows and James Fleming did grant, bargain, sell, release and confirm, and the said James Fleming did ratify, approve, release and confirm unto the said Walter Hinds all that and those the towns and lands of Gortnatrieve and Behy, County Cavan, situate, lying and being in the County of Cavan with the appurtenances to hold to the said Walter Hinds, his heirs and assigns forever subject only to the yearly quit rent and fees of £2, 8 shillings payable to his majesty, his heirs and successors out of the said lands. The deeds of lease and release and the memorial were witnessed by Hugh Reilly, John White and John Maddock, all of the city of Dublin, gentlemen, signed and sealed by James Fleming, fully executed and registered on 9 September 1766.1

(Mother) Census US 185017 August 1850Clara Gist appeared on the 17 August 1850 census as the Head of household in District 4, Brooke County, Virginia. She was age 74. Residing in her household were Elizabeth and Joseph Gist, her son and daughter-in-law. Joseph, age 34, was a farmer with real estate valued at $7,875. Joshua Gist, age 32 and an M.D., appeared as the Head in the neighboring household with real estate also valued at exactly $7,875, leading us to believe that he was likely Joseph's brother. In addition to Joseph and Elizabeth, who was age 24, in Clara's household were another Clara Gist, age 15, Louisa Gist, age 1/12 and two male laborers. Young Louisa was likely the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth, and the younger Clara, while believed to have been a relative, was probably too old to have been a daughter of either Joseph or Joshua, and too young to have been Clara's daughter. Her relationship to the extended Gist family has not yet been determined.2

Wheeler and Frances Wheeler, his wife, sold 100 acres of land on the waters of Skaggs and Peters Creek, Barren County, Kentucky, to Obadiah Britt Sr. on 31 July 1850 for and in consideration of the sum of $200. The property was described as one piece, parcel or tract of land lying and being in the county and state aforesaid on the waters of Skaggs and Peter's Creek and bounded as follows: beginning at a poplar on Curd's line near the corner of said Wheeler's fence, thence North 20 degrees 76½ poles (crossing the tobacco road at 53 poles) to a small mulberry, hickory, beach and black oak on a path, thence South 89 degrees East 210 poles to three black oaks and a chestnut on Doss's line, thence with said line South 48 degrees West 153 poles to a stone, thence North 73 degrees West 126 poles to the beginning, containing 100 acres. It was also understood and agreed by the parties that the said Micajah E. Wheeler and Frances, his wife, also sold and conveyed to the said Obadiah Britt a pass way 20 feet wide from the beginning corner in this deed along said Wheeler's and Curd's lines to the spring, and that the said Britt and his heirs to have a perpetual (access) to said pass way to said spring, and also to water from the spring for all necessary uses for family use and for stock to drink.2 
(Executor) Will16 January 1851Joseph Renfro was named in the will of Micajah E. Wheeler, dated 16 January 1851 in Barren County, Kentucky, as the person Micajah wanted to act as the Executor and Cestui que trust of his estate.

Micajah's primary directive was that all of his estate, both real and personal, be divided equally between his children, by both of his wives, including all that may be born to him after the preparation of his will. He directed that all of his children were to live with his wife, Frances Wheeler, who was to have charge and custody of his property during her widowhood to be used for the benefit of all the children. He directed that his estate was not to be divided until the youngest living child became of age.

He did not want his gray horse or roan mare to be sold, nor one young yoke of steers, cows and heifers, hogs and sheep. He directed that all his farming tools and personal property that could be spared, be sold to pay his debts. His tobacco was to be priced and freighted by H. P. Curd, and he wanted the transaction details, for the land he had recently sold to Obadiah Britt Sr., to be completed. He wanted Joseph Renfro to act as the Executor and Cestui que trust of his estate.

His will was signed and sealed by the X mark of M. E. Wheeler on 16 January 1851, and witnessed by John T. Rogers, John J. Curd and George M. Page, to the attention of: Travis Cockrill.3,4,5 
(Witness to Deed) Land Records17 January 1851 On 17 January 1851, Joseph Renfro signed as a witness to a deed whereby Obadiah Britt Sr. sold back to Micajah E. Wheeler the same 100 acres of land on the waters of Barren County, Kentucky, he had purchased from the same Micajah E. Wheeler and his wife six months earlier. Obadiah had paid $100 for the land, and Micajah paid $300 to buy it back. After identifying the land as being the same 100 acres conveyed to Britt by Wheeler, the land was further described as beginning at a poplar on Curd's line near the corner of Wheeler's fence, thence North 20 degrees 76½ poles, crossing the tobacco road at 53 poles, to a small mulberry, hickory, beach and black oak on a path, thence South 89 degrees East 210 poles to three black oaks and a chestnut on Doss's line, thence with said line South 48 degrees West 153 poles to a stone, thence North 73 degrees West 126 poles to the beginning. They owned their house, which was not on a farm, and did not own a radio set. Four children were enumerated with them in 1930. Clarabell and Orville were ages 9 and 6 years, respectively, and had both attended school within the census year; Vernon was 3 years, 10 months old; and baby Charles was four months old. Edward's mother and stepfather, Zilla and Russell Taylor, were enumerated in the first previous household on the same census page.6

Edward was 53 years of age and unable to work, and Iva was 49 years of age and worked doing her home housework. Two of their children were enumerated with them in 1950. Charles E. was 20 years of age, worked as a laborer at a privately owned Cement Mixer Sales and Service Company, and had worked 40 hours the week before the census was taken; and Richard A. was 11 years old and probably attending school. Edward's mother and stepfather, Zilla and Russell Taylor, were enumerated in the next household on the same census page.7,8
